                  Moving Tips

Moving tips from on line move.

Notify utility companies of your move and request disconnect and reconnect. Notify your newspaper carrier.

Even though the moving company has a preliminary list of the items to be moved, you need to take a complete inventory, room by room. Inspect the furniture for its condition, perhaps even taking photos of valuable pieces.

To be sure of a smooth transition, you might want to print a copy of the moving checklist.

If you’re packing anything yourself, pack it room by room and mark the boxes. It’s a good idea to number the boxes. Make a master list for your files.

Be sure you have arranged for funds to pay the moving company. Some movers won’t accept personal checks.

Any items of extraordinary value, such as furs, jewelry, antiques, or silverware should be packed by you and moved by you if possible. If not, be sure to inventory and photograph them.

Supervise the loading of the moving van and don’t be afraid of "getting in the way". Be sure the driver has your new address and instructions for finding your new home. Get the name of the driver and van number, and coordinate time of arrival.
